Simulator exercise
Objective:
- To train crew members in the proper handling, stowage, securing and care of cargo throughout the voyage
Scenario:
- A vessel is preparing to loading palm oil at a port. The crew must follow specific procedures to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of the cargo to its destination.
- Navigational Aids: Use a cargo simulator
Tasks:
- Determine the necessary ballast water levels to maintain the vessel’s trim and stability during loading.
- Develop a plan for distributing the cargo evenly throughout the hold to prevent excessive list or heel.
- Review emergency procedures, including actions to take in case of overfilling or stability issues
- Check inert conditions of tanks and the conditions of P/V valves before loading
Evaluation:
- Adherence to safety procedures and regulations.
- Timely completion of tasks and minimizations of delays
- Correct ballast management and cargo loading calculations
- Response to simulated emergency situations
